Front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are two of the most common of the four drivetrain systems. They both have benefits and drawbacks. If your vehicle has front-wheel drive, your wheels are getting power from the engine to pull the vehicle. If your vehicle has rear-wheel drive, power is transferred from the engine to the wheels, so your vehicles being pushed by the rear wheels.

Rear-wheel drive is commonly seen in sports cars. This system spreads the vehicle's weight more evenly for better balance than vehicles with front-wheel drive. Furthermore, rear-wheel drive gives the front wheels more freedom to move since they don’t receive any power from the engine. However, vehicles that are equipped with this drivetrain are more prone to losing traction on slick surfaces.

Front-wheel drive gives a vehicle more grip on slippery terrain, and it improves fuel efficiency. Another advantage of front-wheel drive is that it can produce less carbon dioxide than rear-wheel drive systems.
