Fans of the Ford Mustang are in for a pleasant surprise; the iconic muscle car is getting a makeover fit for the 21st century! The first Mustang made its debut at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. Since then, it has become a definitive vehicle in American automotive history. Redesigning a car with a massive cult following was undoubtedly a challenge for Ford. However, the engineers at Ford rose above the hurdles and delivered a car that looks just as powerful as it feels. Don’t worry, it’s still the same Mustang you know and love. It just had some work done!
Let’s take a look under the hood. For starters, the Mustang is losing the entry-level V6 engine and is receiving a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4 cylinder EcoBoost engine. Ford is also presenting consumers with the option of an upgraded 5-liter V8 engine in the Mustang GT. The V8 engine can be customized with an optional active exhaust for maximum volume. The Mustang’s driving experience is enhanced by a twin-disc clutch in the six-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic transmission with quicker shift times.
The Mustang sports a sleeker look to promote better aerodynamics. The updated exterior includes a lower nose and new front and back bumpers. Ford outfitted the new Mustang with LED headlights, turn signals, and fog lamps. Formerly only available on the Shelby GT350 Mustang, the entire model line will offer adaptive Magneride shock absorbers.
The 2018 Mustang will feature the latest in innovative Ford tech. Adaptive radar cruise control, new camera-based lane keeping assistance, and a pedestrian-detecting automatic braking system will help keep both drivers and pedestrians safe. The interior will feature a 12-inch wide digital instrument cluster that the driver can customize. The all-new 2018 Mustang will be available in the Fall, and we can’t hold our horses!
