The future may be closer than we think! Ford and Amazon are working together to place the Amazon digital assistant, Alexa in their latest vehicles. Soon, people will be able to control their cars straight from their Amazon devices.
The latest Ford SYNC 3 AppLink is one of many new developments coming to vehicles to assist customers in navigating their phones as well as their cars. While the AppLink was originally used to help display phone screens in Ford vehicles, Amazon takes the app to a new level with voice-activated technology. Thanks to Alexa, activities that required the dangers of holding and watching a phone while driving will become a thing of the past.
The first of its kind, Alexa will be able to schedule reminders, play music, update lists, read the news and more during a daily commute and all with voice-activated commands. In addition to that, Alexa will also be able to connect people to their homes from their cars and vice versa. While driving, you can alert Alexa to lock doors, close garages, or turn on the porch lights to your home. Even better, the app can even allow you to activate your car from the inside of your house. Connection and convenience has never been more possible than with the Ford SYNC.
This announcement was previously made by Ford at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. While, the in-car features will not be available until the summer, home functions will be available to eager customers later this month in Ford Focus Electric, Fusion Energi, and C-Max Energi models with an Amazon connection.
Ford notes that hopefully this new development will not only offer more convenience but promote better driver safety with fewer distractions while on the road. While it’s still too early to judge the success of the Ford SYNC App, the summer is sure to be a leap into a new future of automobile technology.
